Animals, Animals, Animals!

We have begun our study of ANIMALS.  We are beginning by sorting types of animals using the plastic animals on mats, which not only serve to study: Same/Different; animal classes but is also a great early math skill.

We have also introduced DeeDee Deer to our Zoo Phonics friends.  Next week we will learn about Ellie Elephant and then Francy Fish to end off October.
Our classroom theme for the ZooPhonics party is OCEAN ANIMALS so we will incorporate Francy Fish, Jerry Jellyfish, Olive Octopus, and Pewee Penguin in our decorations.  It is going to be a lot of fun.  Notes will be going home this week to show all of the zoo phonics characters to give ideas of costumes for your children.

As the children have become used to our classroom routine we are able to spend a little more time on the rug practicing our zoo phonics sounds and even listening to stories!  SO, beginning next week, we will be shortening free choice time in the morning and going to rug time earlier to work on zoo phonics and stories.  I will also have the children "Sign in" every mornng by placing their name card from the "Home" side of the white board to "School".  This will serve to help with name recognition.
**I have a few items I am looking for at Thrift Stores and/or garage sales if you could search with me:
     * Wood Picture Frames (8x10 or larger) to use as Art Displays
     * Dress Up clothes for boys and girls - Older children sizes often work well such as boys           suits, fancy girls dresses (Sizes 8-10 or so)
**If you eat eggs - we will be using Egg Shells for Art next week if you could save some           washed shells that would be appreciated.
