I hope you all are able to attend, it is my favorite trip. The Animals are adorable, the Hay Wagon ride through the Orchard is FUN and making Apple Cider is intriguing to see how the apples are mashed so the juice comes out!
This also creates an atmosphere for some great photo ops!
We have been learning about Our Growing Bodies by weighing and measuring the children. Thanks everyone for bringing in your homework page and you will see the results on the bulletin board by next week.
We have also been talking about our families through songs, books and adding our family pictures to the Turtle Family Tree. We also talked about our homes as we build with blocks during our play time.

We have also worked on vocabulary, building strong muscles in our fingers, and talk about the letters in our names, as we play in shaving foam.

There is always a certain amount of separation anxiety and it will soon pass. In the meantime I will strive to find the one thing that makes each child comfortable as they learn you will come back!
We started off with our theme: "FAll About Me!" We are learning who we are: What do we look like? What is our favorite color? What do we like to do?

In Science we explored colors-how can you make your favorite color using only Red, Yellow, Blue?

In cooking we used food items to make a Rice Cake replica of our faces.

In our Turtle class:

We discovered how water runs through a funnel and a sieve but not through a cup. While we were doing this our shoulder muscles got stronger getting us ready to write!

We also explored with painting at the easel and using water color paint.

We have begun making pages for our "ME BOOKS" which we will add to all throughout the year.

Next week we will explore our Senses in Science and with some MESSY PLAY in center time on WED. AND THURS. DRESS FOR MESS! During class we will incorporate our senses as well as learning how tall we are, how much we weigh, what is our favorite food and our favorite toy. I will also be asking for assistance from home on some of these questions as some are not verbal and don't always answer questions yet. We will also begin talking about FAMILIES and I will be needing a FAMILY PHOTO (no bigger than 5x7) that you can part with. PLEASE BRING THEM IN BY FRI. 9/4.

I'm looking forward to a lot of fun in the future days!

Our beginning of the school year will combine two themes into one, "All About Me" and "Fall" will create "Fall About Me".
We will begin the year embracing Fall and learning Who these children are! They will explore:

What they look like

What they like: favorite colors, animals, foods, smells etc.

What does their house look like?

Who is in their families?

I will be asking everyone to bring in a family photo (a copy you don't need returned) within the first 2 weeks of school. We will make and "About Me" board with pictures to display in the classroom. This will also help them feel better about you being gone as they can look at your picture during class.

See you all Soon!

Here is an article I found and have used for the beginning of school year for children that may have a hard time being left.

This was an article I
found many years ago that still applies today!
Some children may have no problem being left on their first day of
school, but they may have a few tears after a week or two. Some children from the beginning may have BIG
FEELINGS about being left but with care and persistence it will pass and they
will get used to the transition soon.

Please know I am very compassionate
with your children and will tell them “I know you are sad/mad, but I know your
mom/dad is coming back!” “Do you need a
hug?”

Also as parent helpers
you may be asked to help with these children as well. Some things to remember:

·
Don’t tell them not to cry, they need to express their feelings and we
are here to help them name their feelings and learn to communicate HOW they are
feeling.

·
Sit next to them and
tell them and offer support by just being there and acknowledging their
feelings.

·
Try and get them
interested in an activity.

Please know we will love
your child and try to make their transition away from you a positive experience. Please also know if your child is REALLY inconsolable
and we have exhausted all of our strategies we will call you!

With a little love and
compassion those that may be reluctant will soon be excited to come to school
and have a great time!

Spring is such a busy time of year for everyone. We have many events happening so we want to make sure everyone has all the information you need. Please be sure to read emails from me as well as the Friday Blasts that go out.

We have had so much fun with our Farm Study. We will be bringing it to a close this week with some final fun activities. We have studied What lives on a farm, and What grows on a farm. We have visited the Farm and then done some tasting vegetables that grow on a farm as well as Planting vegetables. We began a "Compost Bin" during Science and will continue to save food scraps to add to our outdoor compost bin.
We will continue to incorporate SPRING throughout our classroom as we finish the year. We have a TWO NEW ADDITIONS to our classroom: CATERPILLARS that will change into Painted Lady Butterflies in a couple of weeks as well as CHICKEN EGGS in our incubator that should hatch the end of the week May 7th/8th. Hopefully we will have some hatch during school (Fingers crossed!)
We will also incorporate the Eric Carle theme in our artwork and stories in preparation for our "WE PLAY" event on Saturday April 11th. I hope you can all make it, I'm sure it will be so much fun!!
We will continue with Letter "T" for Timothy Tiger this week and then will explore "U & V" next week.
We have made some Galactic Playdough, Moon Dust to explore Gravity and we have a couple of Art projects that are in process. We have incorporated some Math as we counted stars, Language as we made books about space, and used our Fine Motor skills to cut and play with playdough. Oh and we have lots of practice sharing and using our words with our friends!
We will focus this week learning about The Sun, and it's energy. I will also be turning the dramatic play area (where the kids play with babies and cook food) into NASA Ground Control. If any of you happen to have any OLD KEYBOARDS, CD's, and/or Smaller sized Plastic Lids I would love to borrow them.
We will also continue with our focus on the colors Blue and White and Reviewing Numbers 1-5.
We will move on to Letter M and introduce Missy Mouse this week and continue into the last week of January since it will be a short week as we will have a Field Trip to March Air Field Museum the 29th & 30th.
Can't believe January is almost gone! The year is just moving along. Check out the Upcoming dates page for more fun to come!
I always enjoy the time spent with my family recalling the memories of past Christmases and making new memories to remember in the future.
Thank you all so much for the wonderful gifts, I truly feel so very appreciated! It has been a very restful break for me but I am anxious to get back to the classroom and play with all the children again.
We will be embarking on a Study of Space when we return on Tuesday. It will be a fun time of learning and exploration. We will discover hands on through all areas of curriculum. Ms. Renee will have her block area turned into a space ship, Ms. Charlee will be engaging the children through Space Math and some fun Art projects and our classroom will be turned into a Space Laboratory and Space Cooking; Hmmmm, how do they eat in space? We will be doing some investigation and exploring this idea.
I am excited to discover what the children know about space and what questions they will come up with as a springboard for our learning experience.
I would appreciate any books (Fiction and Non-Fiction) your child would like to bring in to share, Posters/Pics about Space. We are also on the lookout for Dress Up costumes along the Space theme lines. We were donated some VERY SMALL Buzz lightyear costumes which would work if we also had some Bigger Buzz Lightyear for the older children. If you have or come across any they would be appreciated.
I also have a couple of Parent jobs: paper cutting and letter cutting if any of you have some time or a Cricuit machine. I also will be bringing the famous School Bus back into the classroom and turning it into a Space Ship so if anyone is creative and would like to help out decorating let me know!

I can't wait to see how much fun the children will be having with our space study!!
Ms. Marihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11376339511461027096noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2413597157950231539.post-63713627385537852042014-12-01T21:04:00.000-08:002014-12-01T21:04:13.418-08:00Giving Brings Joy

Christmas is quickly approaching and I am loving all of the excitement that goes along with it! My senses are all in overload with the Smells - Christmas trees & Gingerbread, Sights -Glitter & Lights, Sounds - Bells Jingling & Children Giggling, and Textures of Prickly evergreens & Smooth round ornaments hanging on the tree! So much to love and enjoy about Christmas!

Our Classroom Christmas theme is "Giving Brings Joy". I wanted to tie in Social Emotional Development and have our few weeks before Christmas be a time of learning to spread Joy to Others. It was very evident that this example is already being demonstrated to your children by your generous donation of food for the food bank, as well as boxes of toys for Operation Christmas Child! Thank you all so much for helping to make Christmas a little better for some that are not as fortunate as us.

There is so much happening I will try and be brief in my explanation.

We will be making Christmas decorations for our REAL LIVE Christmas Tree in our classroom, it will be so adorable!

This week I will be sending home a "FAMILY PROJECT" Decorating a Poster Board triangle that will be made into our "Classroom Tree". It can be decorated as simply or as elaborate as you choose. Must be returned by Mon/Tues Dec.8th & 9th

Christmas Party on last day of school Thurs Dec. 18th & Fri. Dec. 19th **Children will be "performing" a couple of songs and ALL parents are invited to stay for all of the day or just for the singing. It was decided to be a school wide Pajama Party Day so dress your child in his/her favorite jammies! (We will still go outside to play so make sure it is appropriate for outdoor time. Boots to go on easily is a great idea). We will enjoy "Christmas Breakfast" for our snack food items so be on the lookout for the sign up sheet to bring something.

Yucaipa and Beaumont Christmas Parades Sat. Dec. 13th ~ Who doesn't love a parade? It is always a great time to join in on the float! Yucaipa is @ 11 am and Beaumont is in the evening (Dress warm).

Don't forget to check the "Wishlist" page as well as the Upcoming events!

Merry Christmas!

Did you get out your sweaters and boots and get out to enjoy the beautiful cool weather? I hope so, if not you still have a few more days. While you are out enjoying the weather Be on the lookout for: Seed Pods, Pine Cones, Fall Leaves, etc.
We are beginning our study of SQUASH, yes I said Squash. We will be learning about parts of plants, seeds, how plants get water and all sorts of fun exploration of plants.
We will also be looking for: Unusual Squash, Gourds, Pumpkins, and different varieties of Squash. Are you looking for something to do with your UNCARVED PUMPKINS?? Look no further bring them to school and we will have some fun!

Our focus for November:
Zoo Phonics 11/3-7: Gg Gordo Gorilla (goes well with Gourds)
Week of 11/10-14 & 17-21: Letter Hh Honey Horse
All Month: Number 3, the shape Rectangle, and the colors Yellow & Brown.

Don't forget Tues. 11/11 Is Veteran's Day - No School

I am looking forward to lots of Fall Fun!

Ms. Marihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11376339511461027096noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2413597157950231539.post-59613518260985401892014-10-25T10:50:00.001-07:002014-10-25T10:50:42.820-07:00Zoo Phonics Party this Week!
Do you have your costume yet?? If not here are a couple of Super Simple sites to get your costume done in a jiffy!

http://www.instructables.com/id/No-Sew-Octopus-Costume/

http://www.fleecefarm.com/easy_animal_costumes.htm#tiger ( Also have Cat & Bunny)

We will have a COSTUME CONTEST for Parent Helpers, so if you are working in class that day (or even if you just want to stay and join the fun) get your costume ready!

This week we will wrap up our study of ANIMALS and will move on next week to study SQUASH.
So if you happen to be shopping and see some UNUSUAL SQUASH, GOURDS OR PUMPKINS that we can use please start bringing them in.

Our DRESS UP clothes (school wide) are looking a little sad. If you happen to see some great clothes on clearance after Halloween please keep our school in mind. Don't forget the BOYS as well. Older children's clothes (size 8-10) are great for dress up too: *Fancy girl dresses *Boys suits/vest/jackets *Western wear *Construction type clothing, etc.

ZOOPHONICS THIS WEEK: We have covered Ellie Elephant this week. For those of you working with your children at home on Zoo Phonics, the children always struggle with hearing the difference between "A" for Allie Alligator and "E" for Ellie Elephant. This is not unusual for this age group so when working with them just say it correctly for them and add: Allie says "A" and Ellie says "E". We also only cover the short vowel sounds at this age because they are just not quite ready for that much confusion! The long sounds get covered later.
ZOOPHONICS NEXT WEEK: "F" Francie Fish (which very nicely goes with our Ocean Theme for our Party! We will then move on to "G" for Gordo Gorilla the first week in November.

When entering the driveway to school PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY and WATCH FOR CHILDREN! Even if you are arriving late it would only take one close call with a child dashing out in the driveway to be a tragedy. THANK YOU!!

Ms. Marihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11376339511461027096noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2413597157950231539.post-60972793999976754562014-10-15T07:17:00.001-07:002014-10-15T07:17:07.162-07:00Animals, Animals, Animals! We have begun our study of ANIMALS. We are beginning by sorting types of animals using the plastic animals on mats, which not only serve to study: Same/Different; animal classes but is also a great early math skill.

We have also introduced DeeDee Deer to our Zoo Phonics friends. Next week we will learn about Ellie Elephant and then Francy Fish to end off October.
Our classroom theme for the ZooPhonics party is OCEAN ANIMALS so we will incorporate Francy Fish, Jerry Jellyfish, Olive Octopus, and Pewee Penguin in our decorations. It is going to be a lot of fun. Notes will be going home this week to show all of the zoo phonics characters to give ideas of costumes for your children.

As the children have become used to our classroom routine we are able to spend a little more time on the rug practicing our zoo phonics sounds and even listening to stories! SO, beginning next week, we will be shortening free choice time in the morning and going to rug time earlier to work on zoo phonics and stories. I will also have the children "Sign in" every mornng by placing their name card from the "Home" side of the white board to "School". This will serve to help with name recognition.
**I have a few items I am looking for at Thrift Stores and/or garage sales if you could search with me:
* Wood Picture Frames (8x10 or larger) to use as Art Displays
* Dress Up clothes for boys and girls - Older children sizes often work well such as boys suits, fancy girls dresses (Sizes 8-10 or so)
**If you eat eggs - we will be using Egg Shells for Art next week if you could save some washed shells that would be appreciated.
It is really nice to finally have some Fall weather (well at least for a few days)!

October will be a busy month here at Inland Preschool - See the "Upcoming Events" Page for details.

We will wrap up our study of "All About Me" this week and will begin a NEW STUDY next week on "Animals".
We will start off Mon OCT 5th/ Tues. OCT 6th with a fun game with our stuffed animals. I will send a note home as a reminder to have your children bring their favorite stuffed animal to school with them on those days.
We will review "a" Allie Alligator and "b" Bubba Bear and then introduce "c" Catina Cat. The children are really enjoying our time with these animals and playing with the puppets. This week we will finish up the color Red, Number 1 and the shape-Square before we move on to COLOR - Orange; NUMBER 2 and the Shape - Triangle beginning Oct. 5. We will also begin to focus on EMOTIONS: Happy/Sad - It is important for children to learn to express their emotions verbally so they will not act out physically. It is also critical for their development of Social Emotional awareness and developing friendships at this age.

And then to end the month we will have our Zoo Phonics Party on Thurs. Oct. 30th & Fri. Oct. 31st. We encourage your child to dress up as one of our Zoo Phonics Animals (See the complete Alphabet of Animals hanging in the room later in the week). It can even be as simple as Animal Ears and a Tail! I will be "Missy Mouse" of course because Ms. Mari and Missy Mouse begin with the same sound. We will have a sign up sheet for parents to bring snacks for party day, this will be posted as we get closer to the date.
I hope you are all able to attend, it is my favorite trip of the entire year. In preparation we will be doing some projects that involve APPLES!
Beside a bumpy tractor ride through the apple orchard, pressing cider and tasting great apple products, these are just a couple of the animals we will see.
Please join us Tuesday evening @6 p.m. for our Back to School Picnic! I am looking forward to seeing all of your family members here!

I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Christina, (John's mom - MWF class) for donating our Barn! The children are having a great time using their imagination and learning about sharing and taking turns. :)

What is Happening in the Turtle Class this week (and last):
*Has your child come home with his hands far apart from each other saying the Short A sound as his hands clap together, this is the sound Allie Alligator makes! Yes, we have begun to work on Zoo Phonics.
Next week we will move to Bubba Bear who reaches way up high to get some honey as he says the B sound.
We will continue through the rest of the month with the color RED and Number #1 as well as the shape Square.

*If your child has mentioned "Fire Alarm" or "Loud Noise" we did have a Fire Drill this week. This will happen once a month and the children will soon become accustomed to it. It is very important for them to learn what to do, so we will keep practicing!
*We also heard the story of the Good Samaritan from the Book of Luke 10 at our Chapel time and discussed "Kindness" and how to show love to others.
I have enjoyed getting to know the children these past two
weeks. It is so much fun to watch their
faces as the puppet “Stripy” talks to them, watch them dance and sing. Most of all I have enjoyed watching them
explore every inch of the classrooms! It
seems they are becoming comfortable and discovering that this is a safe, fun place to
be. If your child is not one that seems comfortable yet, not to worry - a little patience, positive talk and reassurance you will return and they will soon be off enjoying themselves!

I have been working diligently to make our classroom full of fun!
It is my prayer your child will come the first day of school so excited to play he will forget all about you being gone :) Although I know there will be a few tears, I also know that all of the children will quickly get used to parents leaving, knowing they will be back soon. In this learning process, I will provide many hugs and reassurances that parents are coming back and she can have a really fun time until their return.
We will begin our year with the study: ALL ABOUT ME during this study we will begin to explore: what do the children look like? What color eyes/hair/skin do you have? What are their favorite colors, toys, animals, songs? This will also give me a chance to really get to know all the children. We record this through the construction of "ME BOOKS" about themselves. It will be fun to see how they are able to express themselves and how they perceive themselves (it is always fun to compare drawings at the end of the year).

In order to help make our first day run smoothly REMEMBER:
*Parent Helpers ARRIVE ON TIME
*Bring a Backpack with at least 1 set of extra clothes
*A Stack of Diapers and a pack of wipes, if needed (you may bring a small bag of diapers marked with your child's name and I can store until needed)
*Upon arrival, settle your child in an activity: playdough, read a book, coloring, etc.; Give hugs and tell them you will be back soon (Don't sneak out)!

Your child may cry (and/or you may cry), most likely only until you are out of sight, then they will be playing and having a fun day!

I look forward to seeing you Monday or Tuesday!
What? Yes, it is the end of the year and I always myself being reflective. What have we accomplished? Is there anything I wanted to accomplish and didn't? What was my best joy of the year? Well, I have to say as I look back on those frightened, chubby little faces, some of whom couldn't even communicate their needs others maybe a little too strongly, and see how far they have come I get a little teary eyed. I am so proud of all of the children and you as their parents who work alongside them to build them into strong young men and women someday (all too soon, I might add).
This week we will be preparing for our Spring Sing that takes place this Friday @6 pm. We will be singing "Octopus" AKA "Slippery Fish" and "Tiny Turtle". In my experience some children will NOT be comfortable in front of all those people; please do not force your child if he is not willing. I will do my best to prepare them and make it fun. Dress your child in Hawaiian Beach style clothing if you happen to have on hand.
Look for Sign Up Sheets for our End of Year Celebration Breakfast that will take place on Tues/Wed June 3rd & 4th @ 9:15 am. All families are welcome to stay and join us for the food and celebration. Schedule is as follows:
8:30 Class begins
9:15 Breakfast (this will be our snack time)
9:45 Children will sing and then receive Certificates
10:05 Open Centers (Run by parents as usual)
11:40 Clean Up - End day
11:50 Circle Time
12:00 End of Day

THEN Last Days of School are on Thurs. June 5th and Friday June 6th. It will be Fun in the Sun Water Play. PLEASE - dress your child in a ONE PIECE swimsuit with clothing/cover up on top and a towel. Please apply SUNSCREEN before school as we are not allowed to apply without special permission slip. Send your child with 10 FILLED water balloons. Kona Ice truck will be present for a special treat (Yummmm).

It is going to be a fun filled 2 weeks!

I am looking forward to all of the good times we will have (and they are coming up very soon) to finish off the year. Please keep checking your emails and Friday Blasts for updates.
It is so exciting to see our BUTTERFLIES flying around in their habitat ~ truly a miracle to watch how they change!
It will be fun to see what we find in "Nature" on our Nature Hike This Thurs and Fri. Meet @ Los Rios Ranch @ 9 am Sharp! Come prepared in layered clothing as it could be a little chilly in the morning up there! It is a very kid friendly hike, FREE and easy to find! Hope to see you there! Maybe we can find more things for our Nature Book (Pictures at least).

Next week we are expecting the arrival of the chicks about Tues/Wed and am hoping and praying the children will have the opportunity to at least see a bit of the hatching process during school! It is really amazing to read our "chicken calendar" each day and see how they are growing each day inside those little eggs!

In our discussion of "Nature" we have taken a glimpse of Gardens, as it seems quite a few of the children have a garden of some sort. We will be sprouting some things beginning next week and making a miniature farm, think "Fairy Garden". If any of you are out at Michael's or other crafting stores and see any kind of miniatures (we have LOTS of animals already on hand) and would like to contribute please feel free. I have a picture of my idea on my wishlist. I will use our barn we have in our classroom already and have some tiny picket fencing. It should make some fun quiet play. Speaking of that Ms. Tamara and I are scheming to make a real "Fairy Garden" outdoors. It should provide endless hours of imaginative play BUT we need someone who may in need of maintenance hours to dig a little hole to sink a wheelbarrow down to more of a child height. If anyone can do this for me (PLEASE, please, pretty please - yes, I'm begging!) let me know!
Check out the WISH LIST PAGE as well as UPCOMING EVENTS for details.
We are just as busy as can be here in the Turtle Classroom.
We have Caterpillars that are preparing to spin a chrysalis, Ms. Renee's "Science Lab" has our Chicken Eggs in the incubator, some Ladybugs have made an appearance; we will see what happens with them.
This week we learned the word, "Oviparous" (animals that lay eggs) Chickens, Butterflies and Ladybugs are ALL Oviparous! We are also finishing our ZOOPHONICS letters this week with Zeke the Zebra. We will continue to practice the whole zoophonics characters each week.
NEXT WEEK: Monday & Tuesday April 28 & 29th we will have our Trike-A-Thon. Bring your child's bike/trike/scooter AND a HELMET for some bike riding, lemonade drinking fun! This is also to celebrate the completion of Zoophonics so we are asking you decorate your child's bike (or just helmet) like your child's favorite Zoophonics character.
SOME TRIKE-A-THON Q&A:
*What if my child can't pedal? No worries, they can scoot along at their own pace.
*Can I bring a scooter for my child? Yes
*Does my child need a helmet? Yes, we want them to be safe. If he/she doesn't have one, it's a good time to acquire one!
*What if my child doesn't bring a trike? We will still have some fun cheering on our friends!
THIS SATURDAY IS THE LAST DAY TO GET ONLINE AND ORDER YOUR YEARBOOK! A really nice way to have memories of your child's year! I love the fact you can personalize pages for your own child. So CUTE.
We have been invited to join the New Life Christian Fellowship church's annual Church Picnic on Sunday May 4th from 3:00-6:30 pm. Come out for a BBQ, Games, Baseball and meet the people that have been supporting our school with faithful prayers. I'll be there!
Our school year is just flying by! I'm sure I say this every year, but really it is. Looking back at all the progress since the beginning of the year just amazes me. I love this age, watching the huge milestones of development, watching them make friends and learning to use their imaginations in dramatic play.
It has been nice to see our friends making letters in the "Post Office" in the Dragonfly room and delivering them to their friends. We will be focusing a lot on "Friends" this month during February, as
well as continuing with our school wide study of "Transportation".
During the month of February we will also focus on the shape: Heart (of course), Colors; Red & Pink and Number 3 (counting and quantifying number 3 specifically) and Zoophonics letters R,S,T,U
